How to register as self-employed via the Moy Nalog app
Get the Russian self-employed tax status (NPD) in 10 minutes from your phone. No visit to the tax office, no paperwork, no fee.
What you'll need
- Russian internal passport (physical copy, you'll photograph it)
- Smartphone with a camera (iOS / Android)
- INN (Russian taxpayer ID; the app will issue one if you don't have it)
What is the NPD status
Download the Moy Nalog app
Install the official Federal Tax Service app. Available on App Store, Google Play, RuStore and AppGallery.

Pick a registration method
The app offers three sign-in options:
- By passport - fastest, 5 minutes
- Via Gosuslugi - if you have a verified account
- By INN and personal account password - if you already use the FTS portal
The simplest path is by passport - the rest of this guide follows it.
Photograph your passport
Open the passport at the photo spread (pages 2-3). Place it on a flat surface, point the camera - the app auto-detects and snaps the photo.

Take a verification selfie
The app prompts you for a liveness check - blink on cue. This confirms the tax service that the registration is genuinely yours.
